FEATURING THE WORLD’S LEADING MINDFULNESS EXPERTS

Overwhelmed with insomnia and an incurable autoimmune disease, Shannon Harvey needed to make a change. But while the award-winning health journalist found plenty of recommendations on diet, sleep and exercise, when she looked for the equivalent of a 30-minute workout for her mental wellbeing, there was nothing.

Worried for the future mental health of her kids who were growing up amidst epidemics of stress, anxiety, depression and addiction, in a world-first experiment, Shannon recruited a team of scientists to put mindful meditation to the test. But after a 30,000 kilometre journey from the bright lights of Manhattan to the dusty refugee camps of the Middle East, what begins as a self-experiment, transforms into a life-changing experience.

My Year of Living Mindfully is filled with compelling stories, interviews with 18 leading scientists, and unexpected insights that go to the heart of what it means to be human in the twenty-first century.

MORE ABOUT COOL AUSTRALIA

Cool Australia partners with organisations to create high quality educational content and online professional development courses about contemporary issues. We cover a wide range of topics that up-skills educators, so they can critically engage and switch on young learners for life. We work with partners who share our passion for providing exceptional education to young Aussies. Like us, our partners want our education system to empower students to address big social, economic and environmental challenges.

Cool Australia services include two products: the creation of educational materials and online professional development courses.

Educational Content Services

The educational materials include units of work and lesson plans that are learning ‘recipes’ for teachers to follow. They include step-by-step instructions, worksheets, relevant Curriculum mapping, and your real-world content.

We now have capability to cover both the Australian and New Zealand curriculum, with the introduction of new New Zealand Curriculum lessons in 2019.  The Cool Australia team are expanding lessons to meet demand from teaching communities across the globe.

Professional Development Services

Our online professional development courses are like ‘cooking courses’ for teachers. These courses are on-demand and accredited for teacher professional development hours.

How does it work?

Partners provide us with real world content such as documentary films, data, research, videos and infographics. Our team of educational and digital experts use these assets to create high quality materials for early learning, primary and secondary educators. The finished material is hosted on our website for our teacher members to download free of charge.

We have an extensive reach into 90% of Australian schools. We want all of our teachers to know about our partnership and the associated materials. So we shout it from the rooftops with an extensive outreach campaign that drives engagement from education sectors across the country. We provide partners with a project report that states the reach and impact of the materials.
