+ WHAT LICENCE SHOULD I SHOULD GET? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
- SINGLE EVENT screening licence
This licence should be used if you are planning to host a one-off screening for more than 10 people. Additional screenings require an additional licence. How you market and promote your event is up to you. You can either charge for tickets or offer the screening as a free event.
The licence is suitable for people wanting to host a screening either:
(A) in real life in cinemas, workplaces, conferences, schools, universities, hospitals, studios and other screening venues; or
(B) online through your organisation’s intranet or private network. Online screenings using this licence can only take place for a closed group of people. The film cannot be uploaded to any public platform or rebroadcast in any way.
Online screening events can only take place through private networks. The film cannot be uploaded to any public platform or rebroadcast in any way. If you’re hosting an online screening through your organisation’s intranet or private network, you can upload the film, but it must be removed immediately after the screening.
If you would like to host a virtual screening but do not have access to a company intranet or private network, we recommend hosting a streaming using our COURSE OR PROGRAM screening licence. Read more below.
- COURSE OR PROGRAM screening licence
This licence should be used if you would like to share a streaming link with a group so they can watch the film on their own device, either at the same time or at their leisure. This type of licence is appropriate for groups working remotely, workplace wellbeing programs and meditation courses looking to share the film with students.
On purchasing your licence, you will receive a unique streaming link that you can share with a specified number of people. The link will be valid for 10 weeks or until you have shared the film with the specified number. To share the link, simply copy and paste the URL.
How and when you share the link during the 10 week period is up to you. We have heard great feedback from hosts who have shared the link by email then gathered together one week later for a group discussion about the film on a conferencing platform such as Zoom or Teams.
Please note, if you plan to hold an online discussion, we do not recommend also trying to stream the film through your discussion platform (e.g., using “screenshare” on Zoom). Get people to watch the film at the high-quality link we provide.
Each person you share the link with can stop and start the film and watch it multiple times. Our system measures your audience not by views but by IP address.
Please note: If the link is widely shared beyond your intended group, or we see any unusual link activity, the link will become inactive. It is up to you to monitor how many people are given access to the link.
+ HOW SOON AFTER I BUY MY LICENCE CAN I SCREEN THE FILM?
You can screen the film as soon as you have purchased a licence and received your materials. Depending on the scope of your event, you may like to give yourself a few weeks to plan and promote your event.
+ CAN I HOST A SCREENING AS A FUNDRAISER FOR A CHARITY?
Yes. If you are raising money for a charity or not-for-profit organisation and would like to screen one of our films as a fundraiser, we would like to support you. In our pricing options, you will see a discounted Charity Fundraiser rate for both the SINGLE EVENT and COURSE OR PROGRAM screening licences. Consider this our contribution towards supporting your cause.
A screening licence purchased under the Charity Fundraiser rate permits you to host a fundraiser screening or streaming for a not-for-profit organisation or charity for a maximum of 200 people. Other than the capped number of people, the regular SINGLE EVENT and COURSE OR PROGRAM screening licence terms and conditions apply.
We wish you the best of luck and hope your event is a conversation-sparking, world-changing success.
+CAN I SCREEEN THE FILM AT MY SCHOOL OR UNIVERISTY?
Schools and universities wanting to host a one-off screening event are welcome to purchase a SINGLE EVENT screening licence under our Charity Fundraiser rate for up to 200 people, providing no admission is charged. Additional screenings will require a new licence.
Schools and universities looking to offer a streaming link to students over a 10 week period are welcome to purchase a streaming licence under our Charity Fundraiser rate, providing no admission is charged.
Schools and universities also have the option to access the film internationally through our education partners Kanopy and the ATOM Education Shop in Australia.
+CAN I PURCHASE A COPY OF THE FILM FOR A LIBRARY?
School, university and public libraires looking to host a one-off screening event are welcome to purchase a SINGLE EVENT screening licence at a discounted rate. See the Charity Fundraiser rate for up to 200 people in the pricing options. Additional screenings will require a new licence.
Libraries have the option to access the film internationally through Kanopy and the ATOM Education Shop in Australia
+CAN I HOST AN ONLINE SCREENING OVER ZOOM OR A SIMILAR PLATFORM?
While a few hosts have tried to use Zoom or similar conferencing platforms to host their screenings and streamings, we do not recommend it. A number of technical issues can arise when the screen share function is used to broadcast a large, high-quality video file. We only recommend using Zoom or similar platforms for the discussion part of your event. Once you have purchased a COURSE OR PROGRAM licence, you will receive a high-quality streaming link. Please direct people to watch the film at this link. They can then join you on Zoom afterwards for a discussion.
+CAN I SCREEN OR SHOW ANY PART OF THE FILM ON FACEBOOK LIVE, YOUTUBE OR ANY OTHER PUBLIC PLATFORM?
No. Online screenings can only be held in a closed forum for a limited number of people. You are welcome to share the film trailer and use social media and other public platforms to have discussions about the film, but the film itself cannot be screened or rebroadcast on any public platform.
+CAN I PURCHASE MY LICENCE FOR A SMALLER GROUP OF PEOPLE THEN UPGRADE ONCE I KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ATTENDING?
Yes. If you are not sure how many people will attend your event but would like to purchase a licence now so you can receive your materials and start promoting your event, you are welcome to purchase a screening licence for the minimum number of people you think will attend. Once you know the final number, you can purchase a second licence to cover the difference, e.g. if you initially purchase a licence for up to 100 people, but then sell 150 tickets, you can purchase a second licence for another 50 people. (We appreciate your honesty. Your contribution enables us to keep producing high-impact documentary films.)
If you upgrade your COURSE OR PROGRAM licence, you will notice that you will receive a second unique streaming link. If you would prefer to only share one streaming link with your audience, email us to let us know which link you plan to circulate so we can increase the bandwidth on your preferred link.
+CAN I SCREEN THE FILM DURING THE MEDITATION OR HEALTH COURSE?
Yes, but if you are earning an income from your programs then you will need to pay for a licence. By doing the right thing, you will ensure our sustainability and future productions. Every contribution makes a huge difference. Thank you for supporting our work.
+HOW MANY SCREENINGS CAN I HOST WITH A LICENCE?
SINGLE EVENT screening licence – this valid for a single screening of the film. You will need to purchase a new licence each time you want to host a new screening of the film. If you need to upgrade your licence to accommodate a larger audience, please purchase a new licence to cover the additional number of people.
COURSE OR PROGRAM screening licence – this is a one-time link that is valid for 10 weeks. The total number of people you share the link with must not exceed the number of people designated at the time of purchase.
+HOW DO I FACILITATE A DISCUSSION AFTER MY SCREENING?
When you purchase a screening licence, you will receive a Discussion Guide in your Screening Bundle with suggestions for sparking conversations and facilitating discussions.
Some hosts like to organise discussions immediately after their screening. Other hosts (especially people holding events online) like to give their audience the opportunity to watch the film at their leisure, and then will gather for a group discussion at a set date and time.
If you plan to hold a discussion, make sure you consider who will moderate the discussion, and whether you would like to invite any guest speakers. If you would like to see whether Shannon Harvey is available to join you for a Q and A, please get in touch.
+WHAT SUPPORT DO I GET TO PROMOTE THE EVENT?
Once you have purchased your licence and received your Screening Copy, you will receive a link to where you can download a Screening Bundle containing your:
• Screening Licence - a copy of the terms and conditions associated with your selected licence.
• Screening Guide - a step-by-step guide on how to host a successful event.
• Promotional Materials – a pack of materials to help you promote the event including the official film poster, logos, artwork for social media, design templates for an event invitation/flyer and image stills from the film and profile photos of people featured in the film.
• Discussion Guide - suggestions for how you can spark conversations and facilitate group discussions.
From there, it’s up to you to promote and run your event however you’d like.
+DO YOU HAVE A DCP TO SCREEN AT A CINEMA?
Yes, sometimes cinemas prefer to screen the film using a DCP or ‘Digital Cinema Package’. We have industry standard DCPs available for our films in 24 or 25 frames per second. Check with your cinema partner which version they prefer and whether they are happy for this to be delivered by a digital link (e.g. Dropbox or similar).
+HOW MANY TIMES CAN PEOPLE WATCH MY UNIQUE STREAMING LINK?
For hosts who purchase the COURSE OR PROGRAM screening licence, each person you share the link with can stop and start the film and watch it multiple times. Our system measures your audience not by views but by IP address.
+HOW DO I MONITOR HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE ACCESSED MY UNIQUE STREAMING LINK?
For hosts who purchase the COURSE OR PROGRAM screening licence, it is up to you to monitor how many people are given access to your unique streaming link. An online registration or RSVP system can help you to confirm attendees.
+HOW CAN I PROVIDE FEEDBACK ABOUT MY EVENT?

+WHERE CAN I FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT AN UPCOMING SCREENING?

My Year of Living Mindfully runs for approx. 98 minutes including credits.
+ WHAT ARE THE FILMS RATED?
